"Goodbye high-velocity image consumption and aggressive globalization. Hello, trees, monkeys and bugs. Hello, slow-paced, simple, sweet life. Being so removed brought clarity to mind that I have never experienced anything like."

Caitlin Staebell - Actor
USA - July - August 2017
"My life is changed because of my time here, which led to even more experiences I couldn't have dreamed of or considered while I was at home planning.
The synchronicity and ease with which I was able to find Sachaqa Centro de Arte was the universe working in conjunction with my deepest desires and highest form of self."

"Although, in the beginning of my time at Sachaqa I struggled with the differences between my world and the world in the Amazon Rainforest. The luxury I live in – makes me very empty and the poorness in the jungle – make peoples life very rich.."

Julie Kim - Painter
Seattle USA - October 2017
"Being in the jungle was very inspiring, there is constant change & life from the animals and plants around us. There are less external distractions in a rural setting which allowed me to focus inwards. During this time I was observing the conflict between two belief systems inside of me. One that believes in magic and the ineffable, and the other that believes in logic and the quantifiable.."

Anu-Laura Tuttelberg - Puppet Animator
Estonia - Visitor July 2016 - interview March
"It was one of the best screenings I have had, of this film. There was only a few spectators but to be presented in a house made of natural materials, in an attic, felt magical and part of the experience. Which fit in perfectly with the setting of the film, in a European forest. "

"As a child I was so imaginative and fanciful. Along the way I lost that and became analytical and pragmatic. Life, realities and fears of having to be responsible took over. Fanciful imaginings were an embarrassment in my academic adult world and felt self-indulgent.
Sachaqa has created an environment that nurtures and celebrates creativity, which was liberating."

Eileen Ryan
USA - July 2017
" I did not choose a spiritual path at this moment, I feel like I have been given additional tools for my own self-discovery and creative process. My work during the residency focused on learning different ceramic, pigment and drawing processes derived from nature, and passed down through generations of practice ."

Mercedes Llanos - Painter
Argentina - February 2017
@Art-icles with Sachaqa
" I found – acceptance for myself, just the way I am. I no longer feel anxious. Sachaqa allowed me the time to find happiness once again. I have found a deep rooted happiness within. It was a really beautiful realization. An unforgettable experience."

Sian Luxford - designer/illustrator

Why do you feel so connected to plants?
"It’s always been an instinctual thing for me. Somehow plants have become entwined into everything I do – from the way I cook (see below for recipes,) the way I treat illness, to the designs that flow out of my hands."

Svenja Hohlt - Painter
Germany - January 2017
@Art-icles with Sachaqa
Why come to a residency in the Amazon Rainforest?
The Amazon to me is life giving, it is creation itself. I’m fascinated with the way indigenous groups live integrated with their natural environment, they have the knowledge. Whereas in the Western counties we are always working against this natural ecosystem, which leaves us detached from nature.

"I can confidently say my month at Sachaqa completely changed me as a person, and my art. I learned to make my own pigments which I feel will set me apart from other artists as I continue my studies. I recommend this experience to any artist who has an open heart and eager mind. "

Carly Rosenthal - Painting Program
USA - November 2016
"I have always loved being outside and spending quiet time in the woods. Almost every day while I was in Peru I would hike up to the top of the mountain. During this hour long hike, I would plan my day and meditate on the concept of home - which was the inspiration for the sculpture I created. "

"Sachaqa Centro de Arte is a magical place, we made jokes about it while being there; ‘Anything can happen in the jungle.’ I really felt that during my stay, it has definitely changed my view on reality and how I want to live my life."

Nicola McGarry - Sculpture Trail
Canada - November 2016
"My piece was a reflection of all I felt… to hold the earth and also how held I felt here. It was a rich experience for me to have contact and learn from the locals. Sachaqa Art Centre ended up being a place I healed profoundly and grew as an artist. "

"The colors of the sky have since become an essential part of my paintings. I also continue working with the theme of harmony, inspired by my time in the rainforest, where so many forces hang in balance. It’s incredible how the jungle works its way into you, both consciously and subconsciously. "

Mara Sola- Spain/Norway
Visual Artist - May 2015
"As soon I entered the studio I felt home and very excited about the month I had ahead. I shared the studio with other inspiring artists, I felt no pressure of producing or impressing anyone with my art. That helps me to relax and enjoy the exotic nature. We talked about art, but a lot more about life.

"Sachaqa is a place to free your self from the pace of modern day life, to get close to nature (sometimes maybe too close!), and to focus your mind and creativity. Whilst here I settled into a routine of early rises with the sun, yoga, painting, cooking and eating with the other artists and weather permitting swimming in the river."

"My time there was the most artistically inspiring time of my life thus far. Only here can you experience painting with natural minerals, in a bamboo hut, surrounded by mother earth's untouched jungle, and all the music that vibrates from within it.
What I didn't anticipate gaining from my adventure in the jungle, were the amazing friends that I would meet along the way, that will last a lifetime. "

Eve Lyman - USA
Painting and photography - November 2014
"Everything and everyone seems to coexist with each other in a totally organic and unforced way. And there is something about the simplicity, the pure essentiality of this place, I think, that allows the magic to come through. This extraordinary freedom from distraction and materiality allowed me to tap into a new well of creativity within myself. I cannot recommend this experience more strongly to any artist. It is a rare opportunity and privilege. "

"Someone sang me my song and with a rustle of leaves and a shot of smoke, I was alive in The Dreaming. There were secret talks of secret things never to be told, but available to anyone with a clean heart. Sweet sacred spaces were revealed to me as the Selva took me in and filled my breath with photons and chlorophyll"

Natasha Mistry- UK
Painting September 2014
"And so, the four of us became a jungle "Motley Crew;" eating, chatting , exploring the rainforest together and going on excursions. The most striking thing was that we were all of different ages, all from different backgrounds; but we had a very strong connection. I saw myself in each one of them, and it made me smile when I saw my reflection in each one them. A part of me really thinks that I was meant to meet these amazing women who had journeyed to the Amazon alone, in search of something.... "

"After 12 days we felt we made a little home in the upper Amazon, and witnessed not only the local communities but also the new and emerging life of people moving form the city into the jungle. It was through Trina that we could enter the Amazon in such a direct and safe way. I wish such an experience for many other families like ours."

Shan wang

Fabric designer - March 2014
"I spent three weeks in San Roque interacting with the locals and learning about the Northern Peruvian village life style. Every dress has a local component. For example, braided horse hair from the village is used to connect a two-piece dress. In other dresses, traditional weavings from Lamas and inked fabrics from Pucallpa are integrated into my modern designs. "
